Strength in Hope

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. - 1 Corinthians 13:13

Faith, Hope and Love are words that I live by. Without one, you can't have the other. Our faith in God allows us to have hope and to love others. The one that has always stood out to me was hope.

Hope is what helps me get through the difficult times. When it seems like there is no hope at all, God gives me reasons for hope because I know that he will take care of me. I have a tattoo that says "hope" because it means so much to me. I never want to be without hope. Two people in my life have taught me the importance of hope.

The person who taught me to have endless hope was my Grandma Nancy. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999. She had surgery, chemo and went into remission. She was diagnosed a second time and then a third. The third time it spread into her lymph nodes and she passed away in 2009. During her time with cancer, she never gave up hope. Unless you knew that she had lost her hair, no one would know that she had cancer. She was always full of joy, peace and hope. When I had mono, she gave me flowers. She never let the cancer get to her and was always smelling flowers and going to Disneyland. I learned from her that I should never give up hope and to live life at its fullest and not let the little things get to you. She taught me so much and I miss her dearly.

On the other side, I have also seen someone without any hope. My grandfather committed suicide in 2009. I can't imagine what state of mind he was in. What I do know is that it is a place with no hope. I miss him dearly and I'm upset with what happened, but I am using this situation to never lose my hope. I don't ever want to be with hope and it is so important to me to make sure that I keep looking forward. The little things don't seem to matter.

I do marketing and public relations at three non-profit hospitals in Long Beach. I love my job and I love working for a non-profit, but I want to do more. I feel called to give and spread hope. Hope gives me strength and there are so many non-profits that can do that. But I thought to myself, who should I give to? Susan G. Komen is an obvious choice for me, but there are so many other non-profits that are doing great things around the world.

My project for 2012 is to give strength through hope. Each month I will donate $100 to a different non-profit organization that I strongly believe in. I wish I could donate my time and help everyone, but I thought that this would be a good way to get started. I will blog about those non-profits that I donate to so I can let everyone know what they are doing to make the world a better place.

Thank you for following me, encouraging me and joining me in these efforts.

  2. Hey Cayla,

What a great idea and what a great blog. Funny thing to have in common with someone but my grandfather committed suicide too- unfortunately before I was even born, but I always think about what kind of hopeless place he had to had been in to take that kind of decision and miss out on so much.

That being said, I appreciate your taking initiative to give hope.

Good luck to you and I look forward to learning about the organizations you support!
